The number of non-criminal detainees arrested by ICE has surged by 2,000% under President Trump.

@CBSNews@flipboard.com reports: "On Nov. 16, the government figures show, ICE was holding 65,135 people in detention facilities throughout the U.S., the highest level ever publicly reported by the agency, which was created in 2003 following the 9/11 terrorist attacks."

@cstross@wandering.shop Everybody recall what wonders the xenophobic project that is Brexit did for the British economy.
At first the brexitiers said the UK would be 'liberated' and everyone would be financially better off but quickly it evolved into "We don't care what it does to the Economy, we don't like Forrins"

Almost 10 years later and is the UK prospering? Is it happy?

Stephen Bush (FT) sums up the problem with the Labour Govt's immigration 'policy':

'The problem is that Labour’s arguments convince no one, because the people attracted to their rhetoric & their policies on control notice that the UK continues to welcome some immigrants, while those who want a more welcoming position are turned off by the party’s new policies'!

As he suggests their incoherent position pleases no-one & emboldens the Right by normalising their rhetoric.

Rev. Michael Woolf, senior minister of Lake Street Church of Evanston, was shot in the leg with a pepper ball by state police while protesting outside the Broadview ICE facility, Illinois. He writes for Religion News Service about why he continues to show up at Broadview, the atmosphere at protests there, and religious leaders' obligation to resist tyranny. "It is important for my neighbors who were abducted to know that we will not stop fighting for their release," he writes. "By my estimation, our country is somewhere in 1930s Germany. Fascism is growing in power, but we still have opportunities to resist."
