Morning, all,

the International Space Station relies in part on regular unmanned ‘Progress’ resupply missions launched from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. The Soyuz launch pad there is ancient (1960s) and decidedly ropey.

I wasn’t aware of this but the Soyuz launch sequence is almost literally “light blue touch-paper and retire.”

A failure to secure a locking pin has destroyed that part of the complex, and the Russians can no longer launch to the #ISS.

"Portrait of NGC 1055" image by John Hayes is #NASA #astronomy picture of the day #APOD. This image of spiral galaxy NGC 1055, 60 million light years away, is the result of 82 hours of observation and processing from a remotely-operated mountaintop telescope in Chile by an astronomer in Tucson, Arizona. https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap251127.html
